How Do I Participate?

Dates and Information

On My Own Time was created to identify, encourage and display the artistic talents of employees in local business. The program hopes to foster enlightened relations between labor and management, to strengthen the interdependence of business and the arts, and to effect a closer relationship among business, the arts and the community.

Benefits of Participation:

Co-Sponsorship Credit: In addition to Cultural Resources Council and the Everson Museum of Art, participating organizations are considered co-sponsors of this annual event. Co-sponsorship gives each organization a page in the exhibit catalog and mention in publicity for the exhibition.

Expose Hidden Talents: The opportunity to showcase the creativity and accomplishments of your employees through exhibition; both in the actual workplace and in the Everson Museum of Art.

Create Pride in the Workplace: Introducing employees to the creativity and talents of their co-workers.

Attend an Art Opening at the Everson: Invitation to Opening Reception and Award Ceremony at the Everson Museum of Art

Gratis Goods: Each participating company receives a complimentary copy of the exhibit catalog that features their artists.

Upon your decision to participate in On My Own Time, your organization will need to select a Company Coordinator. The Cultural Resources Council's On My Own Time Program Director will work with each company coordinator to produce the event.

Company Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Promote On My Own Time to employees; seek participation.
  • Register employee participants and their artwork
  • Mount an in-house company art show of works entered and prepare identification forms for the artwork to be distributed to panelists at time of judging.
  • On scheduled day of judging, greet judges and remain available to answer any questions.
  • Comply with arrangements made by Council to photograph those art pieces selected for reproduction in the catalog of public exhibit.
  • Prepare, for Council, information necessary both for the catalog and the artists' reception. This includes an alphabetical list of the pieces accepted by the art selection panel for exhibit and another list of all people, who entered the in house show to receive an invitation to the reception.
  • Transport selected art pieces for public exhibit to the Everson Museum of Art during hours specified on load-in day. Art work must be properly identified; include a list of all pieces brought for exhibit with sale price.
  • Represent company at Artists' Reception and on behalf of those employees whose works were selected for the Everson show, accept award certificates presented at the reception.
  • When Everson show is dismantled, receive artwork during hours specified on pick-up day.
  • Arrange for participation fee payment. (Expense Report & Billing Invoice will be sent to you.)

Selection Panel
A panel of professional artists, accompanied by a Council staff person, will visit each company's in-house art exhibit to identify and select outstanding works. Note: the selection panel reserves the right to stipulate proper artwork finishing as a condition for public exhibit; only one piece per artist will be accepted for the Everson exhibit. The Everson Museum of Art reserves the right to final selection for public exhibit.

Program Promotion
At the company level, coordinators are required to publicize On My Own Time in company newsletters, flyers, posters, etc… NB: you must include recognition of the Cultural Resources Council and the Everson Museum of Art on all printed materials. Cultural Resources Council and the Everson Museum of Art will submit promotional materials to public media; companies may also submit materials to public media if they so desire.
